ENSAL provides its student community and staff with several resources for the smooth running of architectural studies.

Library

The ENSAL library offers a wide selection of documents, journals, and digital resources. Its team and collection are there to support the school's student, teaching, and administrative communities.

Located in the centre of the school, the library is open to students for 33 hours per week. Access to the library is open to ENSAL students, dual-degree students from ENTPE, INSA and ECL, teachers, research staff and administrative staff. The Izly card allows access and borrowing in all university libraries belonging to the COMUE de Lyon.

‘AckLab

‘AckLab, architectural innovation workshops, is a FabLab consisting of a fixed base and three mobile workspaces set up in containers for design, experimentation and prototyping.

The FabLab is open to all ENSAL users, schools, universities, businesses and associations. Workshop managers provide expertise and advice throughout the course. Students receive training and personalised support until they are fully autonomous.

At ‘AckLab, you will find digital, stationary, power and hand tools: 3D printers, laser cutters, virtual reality headsets, hot wire cutters, precision drills, pliers, saws, hammers, etc.

This allows you to move from idea to object in the design-manufacturing continuum, experiment with a construction process, test plans, prototypes or ideas, and verify the viability of the projected object.

Reprographics and printing

For printing, the school has a reprographics workshop and a large format printing centre.

The reprographics centre and large format printing centre provide students with self-service access to two multifunction black and white/colour A4 and A3 photocopiers for printing and photocopying, and two binding machines.

A machine for binding documents with perfect binding and four A0 colour inkjet plotters are also available for use under supervision and by reservation.

All printing and photocopying is subject to a fee. However, the school offers very competitive rates.

IT, audiovisual and multimedia services

ENSAL is a member of the national RENATER network (RÉseau NAtional de Télécommunications pour la technologie, l'Enseignement et la Recherche - National Telecommunications Network for Technology, Education and Research). The IT, Audiovisual and Multimedia Department manages the school's IT and audiovisual infrastructure (wired and Wi-Fi network, servers, cameras, etc.).

The entire student community (as well as teaching and administrative staff) has an account on the lyon.archi.fr domain. This account provides access to ENSAL's various digital services: digital work environment, email, Wi-Fi network, printing and photocopying, equipment reservations, logging on to computers in classrooms, etc.

The school has two classrooms dedicated to teaching computer science, equipped with CAD/CAM, DTP and office automation software. Outside of class times, these workstations are freely accessible to students. In addition, SIAM also provides a ‘mobile classroom’ consisting of around twenty portable workstations for teaching purposes.

The department provides video recordings of lectures, classes and various events, which are posted on Canal U or the school's YouTube channel. It also offers students the loan of photographic equipment (digital SLR cameras), video equipment (digital camcorders) and construction site equipment.

Workspaces

ENSAL offers a unique setting, in an exceptional building designed by Françoise-Hélène Jourda and Gilles Perraudin. Awarded a special mention at the Équerre d'Argent awards, the school has numerous spaces of varying capacities.

ENSAL brings together a wide range of spaces :

  • On the ground floor : a lecture theatre with a control room, an atrium and an interior street dedicated to exhibitions, sound and video studios, two computer rooms and four vaulted classrooms
  • On the first floor : bachelor's and master's degree workshops
  • On the third floor : two meeting rooms
  • In the extension : four classrooms, a workshop and the AckLab fablab
  • Outside : an outdoor theatre and parking spaces for cars and bicycles
