Studying at ENSAL

Etudiants de l’ENSAL

Each year, ENSAL welcomes around 40 international students. This international exchange year enables foreign students to confront their architectural practice with French practice and culture.

Presentation

For a semester or two, students from all over the world have the opportunity to follow the courses taught in the Master's program and choose from the Master's - DEM fields of study offered at ENSAL.

While ENSAL encourages the outgoing mobility of its student community, it has also put in place a dynamic policy of welcoming foreign students. This exchange is an opportunity for them to learn about the School's teaching methods and a different cultural, social and economic context, and to develop an ability to adapt that is essential for their professional future.

The School's openness to international students is also enriching for the ENSAL community, which has the chance to meet and work with students from international cultures throughout their studies. This international culture acquired on both sides is an essential element in the practice of architecture and urban planning.

Welcome conditions

The School has developed various schemes aimed at enabling optimum integration of international students into their new environment: a welcome and information day is organized as soon as they arrive, and ENSAL students returning from mobility are asked for their welcome.
To facilitate their arrival, installation and integration, students are systematically informed of the presence of other students from the same school or country.
Students wishing to come and study in Lyon should find out from their home institution about the conditions for admission to exchange programs.

The home institution is the only one authorized to select the profiles eligible for international mobility and the only relay with ENSAL; no individual applications are accepted.

Language level

A level licence and a B1 level in French are strongly recommended to follow Master's courses.
To facilitate the integration of non-French-speaking students, French classes are provided free of charge in evening classes at the École. A program of study is defined in agreement with the home school.

International student aid

To make it easier to understand and carry out administrative procedures, the ComUE Université de Lyon provides several tools.
